Performance

Both SUVs are known for their ease of control. For the RDX, the standard turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine generates 272 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. Power runs to the front wheels via a smooth-shifting 10-speed automatic transmission, and Acura's surefooted Super Handling All-Wheel Drive system is available as an option on all trim levels. The precise steering and finely tuned suspension deliver excellent handling, whether turning a tight corner or cruising on winding roads. The larger MDX offers two available engine options. Most models are powered by a capable 3.5-liter V-6 that generates 290 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque. The nine-speed automatic transmission sends power to the front wheels, with SH-AWD available as an option. For added power and efficiency, the Sport Hybrid trim combines a 3.0-liter V-6 with three electric motors for a total output of 321 horsepower and 289 pound-feet of torque. All-wheel-drive and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission are standard. When properly equipped, the MDX can tow up to 5,000 pounds.

Design and Dimensions

The exterior designs of the two SUVs contain the most differences between the two models. The RDX is designed so that the whole body matches the design of the Diamond Pentagon grille. Acura considers the sculpting of the RDX's rear design to be the pinnacle of what makes this vehicle striking. That rear design includes LED dragon taillights and round exposed dual exhaust finishers. The MDX design is distinguished by its precise sculpting and highlighted by its black chrome accents. Although a simpler design than the RDX, the MDX design features are appreciated for their more athletic appearance. The RDX offers comfortable seating for five riders with 31 cubic feet remaining for cargo. With the 60/40-split rear seats folded down, cargo capacity increases to 80 cubic feet. The Acura MDX is ideal for larger families, with seating for up to seven and nearly 70 cubic feet of max cargo capacity. A six-seat configuration with second-row captain's chairs is available, opening the interior space and providing easier access to the third row.

Both Acura SUVs include state-of-the-art technology to keep you and your passengers safe, comfortable, and entertained while on the road. Both models offer advanced touchscreen infotainment systems. The MDX comes standard with a 7-inch display, with a 9-inch and 16.2-inch display as available options. The RDX comes standard with a 10.2-inch display. Both models offer standard smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus several integrated functions, including navigation and onboard apps. The touchscreen on the MDX also allows you to conveniently control cabin functions for maximized comfort, including climate controls, the sunroof, and the heated steering wheel and heated seats.
